  Can DBT Help Me?

People who benefit from DBT usually find the following experiences and emotions familiar:

  • My moods change quickly and it usually takes a long time for me to “get over” things.  People often refer to me as “overly sensitive.”  I feel like I am more emotionally sensitive than other people I know.
  • Anger is problematic for me.  When I get angry I may act-out (e.g., verbally attack someone, break things, drive recklessly, abuse alcohol or drugs, self-injure) and/or I have trouble expressing my anger at all.
  • My emotions can feel really intense.  During these times, I feel as if I have been “emotionally hi-jacked” and may engage in impulsive behaviors (e.g., binge or purge food, spend money excessively, abuse alcohol or drugs, engage in risky sexual behavior, hurt myself) that I later regret.
  • My relationships are chaotic.  I find that I often have conflicts with my partner and other significant people in my life.  In fact, many of my relationships in the past have been intense, unhealthy and have ended on a bad note.  At times, I have gone through periods of isolating to avoid rejection and being hurt in relationships.
  • My difficulties with emotions have interfered with achieving goals important to me when I know I am capable in regard to jobs, school, and relationships.

If you can relate to some or most of the above statements, DBT may be the most effective treatment for you.  If you are interested in receiving DBT treatment, please call to schedule a DBT intake evaluation.
